Véro’s Kenya: Safari, Family & Giving Back
Kenya has a very special place in my heart.
My brother spent many years working in humanitarian causes and was based in Nairobi for a long time. Because of him, we had the chance to visit Kenya many times, and I was lucky enough to experience the country with all my children, even when they were very small.
Kenya is one of those places that stays with you: the landscapes, the wildlife, the people, the colours and that incredible feeling of space.
Enkopiro — A Very Special Place
One of my most unforgettable experiences was staying at Enkopiro, a beautiful camp in the Maasai Mara, where we created a photoshoot for Fashion Frontier.
Set in the heart of the Mara, Enkopiro offers an intimate and deeply personal way to experience the landscape. It is a place where you feel close to nature, surrounded by the sounds of the bush and the extraordinary beauty of the Maasai Mara.

The idea was about much more than beautiful images.
We wanted to create events, bring people together and raise awareness around the importance of protecting wildlife while also supporting education and the local community.

Nairobi — A Little City Before the Safari
Before heading into the bush, I love spending a little time in Nairobi.
For the Bohème mood, Giraffe Manor is iconic — intimate, romantic and completely unique. Having breakfast with giraffes is one of those experiences you simply never forget.
For something more contemporary, Hemingways Nairobi is elegant, peaceful and surrounded by greenery, while Villa Rosa Kempinski brings a more classic grand-hotel feeling to the city.
For food, Nairobi has developed an exciting restaurant scene.
Cultiva is beautiful for fresh, creative food in a relaxed garden setting.
The Talisman is another favourite, with a lush garden, eclectic interiors and a menu that reflects the international character of Nairobi.
And for drinks, Hero Restaurant at the Tribe Hotel is a great place for cocktails and a little glamour before heading back into the wild.
The Maasai Mara — My Safari Essential
Of course, if you are going to Kenya, you have to experience the Maasai Mara.
Go early for a game drive, when the light is soft and the animals are beginning to move. Then come back for breakfast in the bush, rest during the afternoon and go out again for sunset.
For a truly special stay, Enkopiro is one of the places I would recommend most. Its intimate atmosphere makes it ideal for families, friends and anyone looking for a more personal safari experience. You feel connected to the land, to the rhythm of the days and to the people who make the camp so special.
For another perspective on the Mara, Angama Mara is extraordinary, with its dramatic position overlooking the reserve and a feeling of being completely immersed in the landscape.
For something more intimate and deeply connected to the bush, Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp is another favourite — old-school safari glamour, beautiful tents and an atmosphere that feels like stepping into another era.
And there is nothing more Bohème than a sundowner in the middle of nowhere, with the sky turning pink and gold above you.
Diani — From Safari to the Indian Ocean
After the safari, I love going south to Diani Beach.
The contrast is incredible. From the golden savannah and wildlife of the Mara, suddenly you are walking barefoot on white sand beside the Indian Ocean.
We had one of our most beautiful stays there.
For a special escape, Alfajiri Garden Villa offers an intimate, private experience with incredible views and beautiful architecture.
For something more relaxed and barefoot, The Sands at Nomad is a wonderful choice, with its tropical setting and direct access to the beach.
And when the sun goes down, Diani becomes wonderfully relaxed.
For dinner, Ali Barbour’s Cave is an unforgettable experience — a restaurant built into a natural coral cave, with candlelight and an atmosphere that feels completely magical.
For drinks, head to Nomad Beach Bar & Restaurant for cocktails by the ocean and that barefoot Kenyan feeling.
Kenya Through Bohème
Kenya has inspired me not only personally, but creatively.
The colours of the earth, the textures of the landscape, the incredible jewellery traditions, the fabrics, the animals and the connection between people and nature are all things that resonate deeply with Bohème.
But what I love most is the possibility of combining beauty with something meaningful.
For me, travel should not simply be about taking from a place. It should also be about giving something back.
That is why the projects around conservation, education and community are so important to us.
Kenya has given my family some of our most precious memories — from travelling with my children when they were tiny to photographing jewellery in the middle of the African bush.
It is a place I will always return to.
